This project consisted of multiple control buildings delivering to the outskirts of downtown Chicago for the public transportation system. The height of these shipments posed major routing complications within the city due to many low bridges in the area. Multiple route surveys had to be performed before a negotiable route was found. To further add to the difficulties, heavy traffic patterns in the area required us only to be on the road in city from 1AM-5AM. With the help of the Illinois DOT, state patrol, and Chicago PD we were able to safely make our way to the job site during the middle of the night.
The key to this project was being able to utilize our perimeter 13 axle trailers and low profile double drop to minimize the overall height of each load.
Quick Notes:
- Each building measured in at 16′ wide and 13′ 9″ tall
- Night move within Chicago City Limits
